It annoys me how good Apple's marketing is, it makes me want to get a Mac Neo when I have absolutely no fucking use case for one, and even already have a M4 Mac Air. Get out of my head, Apple

In fact, they are really flat, boring and useless if you look at them that way.

@scalzi I think I saw the same ads. Lovely, cheapest mac laptop ever.

But as a power user I just want more CPU core, more GPU, replaceble storage (3 or 4 x4 NVME slots), replaceable memory.

Once you add that you are starting at 10x the price (or 5430 USD just for a macbook pro with reasonably specs)

@scalzi I am also tempted, because I will likely need a Mac at some point due to Apple's hardware requirements as a developer (unbelievably, in addition to 100€ per annum on top for licensing).

However, 700€ for 8GB of RAM and just 256GB of storage? Puuuhh....

@scalzi As someone with a very tight budget, the price is very tempting since my current system is showing it's age (even more so in the current RAMpocalypse). However, the inability of installing Linux natively is a total deal breaker for me.

@scalzi I tried getting a keyboard for my iPad and got annoyed. I think this makes a good use case for the “I don’t have to do much but want to type on a comfy chair”. Or at least that is how I’m gonna sell it. (And get something more fixed for the main).

@scalzi We bought a Macbook Air for my wife, to replace a Gen 6 iPad, back in December.

She hated it, so I said she should get a new iPad. She waffled, but we purchased an M4 Air last month.

I keep hoping that she doesn’t read the tech pages in the Seattle Times, about the new cheap iPad…
