#QOTD: "A jumbo jet is complicated, a good mayonnaise is complex. No-one wants to fly in a plane with emergent properties." - Paul Cilliers

From the top of your heads, would you have reading material on the axis of complicated–complex as used in the quote by Paul Cilliers above, very much like the argument around the common dialectic on the line of efficient–effective?

@yala @RuthMalan @PavelASamsonov @lisrosello @matthew @trondhjort Cynefin is the obvious one, but I find this confusing. I saw a talk by Rich Hickey years ago, which kind of stuck with me. He explained that "complex" originates from "to complect", which means to twist, intertwine, braid, ... He argued that complex systems are built from simple parts, which are complected, and complexity emerges. But that is reversible, no entropy involved. But most people use the word differently. 🤔
@yala @RuthMalan @PavelASamsonov @lisrosello @matthew @trondhjort For reference, it was "Simple Made Easy" from Rich Hickey at Strange Loop 2011. The thing I remember is around 31:35, but it is worthwhile to listen to the full talk for context. (As most of his talks are.)
