If a self driving car knocks me off my bike. Who is liable ? The coder? Or the "operator" of the self driving car ?
@quixoticgeek I think Elon Musk would say it’s you for not riding your bike properly!
@quixoticgeek this was the subject of episode 2 of Hannah Fry's AI confidential.
@quixoticgeek You are, obviously, because bicycle.
@kim @quixoticgeek Shoulda worn a magic hat!
@quixoticgeek I would say elon musk should be held personally responsible.
@quixoticgeek With the exception of Telsa I think, it's been the manufacturer. I think the German manufacturers have all said that they'll take liability for accidents due to autonomy above a certain level. All the Robotaxis have their manufacturers taking liability.
@quixoticgeek How self-driving? How ideal a world? If we posit a "able to operate without any human input", the company making the self-driving car _should_ (in my possibly arrogant opinion) be 100% liable for it.
@vatine @quixoticgeek we need to have that rule for the point where a driver can realistically be expected to pay less attention than if they're fully in control. I.e. right now.
@gabe @quixoticgeek If the car isn't capable of "fully independent driving" (to at least seven 9s), the CEO should be personally responsible, not shielded by the corporation.
