VC wants a return, and to get the type of return they want, it likely requires some enshittification, ads, or other privacy-violating shenanigans. Alternatively, people can self-fund their own “instances” (assuming that’s actually technically feasible - which maybe it is given blacksky?). But do we think your average user will want to pay for a microblogging service? Time will tell how this all works
