@nixCraft Sounds like this is not a new threat at all. In fact it's the oldest one in the books... Just straight up people being tricked into giving out account info.

You'd think people would learn, but here we are.

The important thing here is that "social engineering" to get access info/passwords/whatever is not even specific to any particular thing. People need to be careful about this in everything.
