#Apple's #M5Max chip is the first thing in tech that truly excites me in a long time. Fuse two to make an ultra and unsubscribe from all cloud-based #AI services. Because an #M5Ultra will allow you to run an #LLM locally on your #Mac, instead of paying for #Claude, #OpenAI, or any other service.
@stairjoke it feels a bit like when Apple released their first PowerPC Macs.
@amselbock I wasn’t around for that, but I can imagine. Using cloud based AI could start feeling like using a Terminal in a corporate environment compared to a Mac that just sits on your desk.

@stairjoke I can’t say much about ai except for that we shouldn’t trust anyone else with our data. So yeah, running it on your personal hardware makes total sense.

To me the old PPC chips simply had this mythical otherworldly aura compared to „mundane“ x86 chips. I have always been a sucker for alternative silicon though. And Apple Silicon just scratches that itch, especially since they’re insanely efficient AND powerful.
