At lunch time today, I requested that our house is disconnected from mains gas and ordered a new fully electric range cooker to replace our current one which has a gas hob.

Feels like quite the milestone...a very expensive one. £1.5k to disconnect from mains gas. Dang.

@tdp_org any idea why it's so expensive? What is actually involved?

@damien @tdp_org I imagine they'll send engineer(s) out to remove the meter, cap pipes off and ensure gas is completely drained. Relatively skilled work (which you want, considering it's gas) so I'm not surprised it's this kind of cost.
