My campus appears to have recently deployed Microsoft Purview on our devices and from my cursory searches, this appears to be quite the surveillance software.
@drb our university is all in with Microsoft products as well. Fortunately they let folks use Ubuntu in some circumstances (I explained I need it for scientific research). I do still have to use certain online Microsoft products (e.g. email). But mostly I've been stubbornly using open source tools for everything.
@kevinmoerman I think a couple of people have been able to get secondary Linux devices with research funds. But they don't like allowing that and generally your primary device has to be one of the approved.
