#Israel will elect a new government on 27th October 2026.

These days we tend to ascribe the #Holocaust to 'the Nazis', not 'the Germans'; and that's reasonable because not all Germans supported the Nazis -- despite the fact that #Hitler was constitutionally appointed Chancellor in 1933. Similarly, #Netanyahu and #Likud were constitutionally elected in 2022.

Should we blame #Likud, not #Israelis, for the #GazaGenocide ?

If Israel again elects Likud in October, should we then blame Israelis?

Here in the UK, our own #UKLabour government is trying to suppress news of the #GazaGenocide. In #Israel, according to United Nations reports, "at least 248 journalists have now been killed" to suppress this news, more than in all wars from the beginning of history until the 1970s.

Can electors in Israel honestly claim to be unaware of the #Genocide committed in their name? If they can, because of these murders, can their election be seen as 'free and fair'?

States must stop Israel before all journalists in Gaza are silenced: UN experts

GENEVA – UN experts* are outraged by the killing of six more Palestinian journalists — including two women — in multiple Israeli strikes in Gaza over the past 10 days.Mariam Abu Daqqa, a visual journalist who freelanced for the Associated Press was among those killed in two Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza on 25 August, as were Al Jazeera Journalist Mohammed Salama, freelance journalist Moaz Abu Taha, Reuters photojournalist Hussam al-Masri, and Ahmed Abu Aziz who worked for several media outlets including the Middle East Eye.

@simon_brooke
You can specifically blame the Israelis who voted for Likud, not Israelis in general; there are too many emboldened bigots who would mentally translate the word "Israeli" into another word one letter further along the alphabet, so it's important to be careful in this case.

(Although there's no reason not to be careful in every case as far as I can see).

@petealexharris Ahhh, ish. #Likkud does not govern alone, there are other (smaller) parties in the Knesset which are even more culpable.

But having said that, Israelis living in the West Bank are entitled to vote in Knesset elections, but #Palestinians are not. Either#Palestine is deemed to be part of Israel, in which case the Palestinians should be allowed to vote, or it is not, so the illegal #settlers should not; and either way the vote for the parties of #Genocide would fall.

@petealexharris Yes, there are many good people who are #Israelis (although how many of them are still in #Israel is questionable). But they are clearly being outvoted by Israelis who either whole-heartedly support the #GazaGenocide, or else wilfully turn a blind eye to it.
