I love my new phone.
I'm still getting to know it though.
So, people who have devices that allow such things, do you bother to set a charge limit?
If so, what do you set it to?
So far I have mine set to the defaults out of the box, but I want to get as much use out of this thing as I can...
@silly_singer From what I've read, 80% is the sweet spot.
@mcourcel I have been hearing that and also 90% so I am very curious what people I interact wit actually do. :)
@silly_singer @mcourcel So your phone will quick charge until it gets to 80%. At that point, it starts charging more slowly, and this is to preserve the age of the battery. This is how Apple describes charge cycles. So if I'm in a hurry, I'll stop charging my phone when it hits 80.
@Rosalyn @mcourcel Right, this is how optimized charging has worked for a while now.
What about limiting it to 80% for charging over all?
@silly_singer @mcourcel Not everyone knows about optimized charging, so I don't like to assume. There are two ways that I utilize my battery differently than some people:
1. I don't let my battery get to 0%. I plug it in at around 20% if possible.
Second, I like to top my battery up in the middle of the day, so I don't necessarily charge it to 100, but I'll charge it for short bursts before doing a complete charge later. I also carry a battery pack in my purse in case I need an emergency charge when I'm out and about. Between these three practices, I didn't see a need personally to limit my charge to 80%.
@silly_singer @mcourcel I keep the defaults but I also have no problem with it going to 100% if I'm going out or doing something more intensive.
@silly_singer Mine is set to 90 percent. It lasts me the day easily.
@silly_singer i never set a charge limit. one of the reasons for that is coming from old school where if you didn't charge the device fully eventually it wouldn't. not sure that's true anymore but can't teach an old dog knew tricks laugh.
@silly_singer Well, I'm being redundant now since I talked to you the other night, but I have mine at 80%. I feel like that is enough, and I don't need to set it higher. I might bump it up if I was going to be out all day and thought that I'd be using my phone a lot and I'd really need the full capacity.
@silly_singer I've wondered this exact same thing. And i've gotten conflicting reviews. It's so confusing.
@NightDrake @silly_singer Is there a website for TWBlue with the latest update.
@silly_singer @NightDrake I have mine set to a charge limit of 85%. I'm near power most of the time so this works great and preserves the long-term health of my battery. I always take a powerbank with me when I'm away.
@mfeir @silly_singer And do you keep the phone plugged in most of the time? Or use charges when you're in the house? I've seen conflicting reports on keeping phones plugged in. But if it doesn't harm the battery I might do it more often. Why use charges if I'm near power. Which like you Mike. I usually am.
@NightDrake @silly_singer I keep my iPhone on a MagSafe charger at my desk most of the day and haven't had any problems. It knows to stop charging if it reaches its charging limit or when the iPhone gets too hot.. The problem to be avoided is that you don't want your battery to be at full 100% charge for extended periods of time. That damages the battery. (1/3)
If you limit the maximum charge to lower, you can keep it plugged in without doing the same damage. 80% is said to be ideal, but you can go higher. I've found 85% works well for me. There's also optimized charging where the system tries to learn your habits and uses artificial intelligence to charge your iPhone only when it needs to be. (2/3)
@NightDrake @silly_singer
Battery management has goten way better now so you don't have to worry about having batteries expand. (3/3)
@NightDrake @silly_singer
@mfeir @silly_singer I do have optomized charging turned on. But I thought that only kicked in if you didn't have a charging limit set. I have mine at 80% at the moment. But I could change it to 85. I have a lot of my notifications turned off as well. Especially because a lot of the things I get notified for I can get from the computer when I'm at home.
@NightDrake @silly_singer That's correct. It would start attempting to learn your habits if you didn't have a charging limit set. You should find what works best for your particular lifestyle. You might have circumstances when you need to charge up to 100% like before a particularly busy day. You can turn off the charging limit for a day so that it automatically kicks in again the next day.
