Well, now that I've experienced some sort of disk failure on my NAS, I'm sort of annoyed that I did not set up any sort of notification system.

This is just a standard Ubuntu box sitting in the office. It doesn't have any sort of mail or cloud integration setup.

What would you recommend I use for alerting?

Anyway, I suspect a drive controller failure. It connects but the data is garbage. Can't even get SMART out of it.

I know I'm dreading the day my old NAS finally has a failure, but somehow it's been running for 12 years now. Do still even have a backup cold spare.

I did get a new QNAP and 4x10TB drives to replace before things went nuts with prices and now kicking myself I didn't go bigger.

Otherwise, it was always just monitoring in the console for alerts and keeping software up to date.

Oh, and backups to external USB drive too helps.
