Started making a rear pallet fork for the tractor from my scrap metal collection.

These two C-channels used to be stuck in the garden holding up a fence.

Progress on the #PalletFork

Working with reclaimed steel is a lot slower. I was cleaning up rust and dirt, welding shut some holes where the fence wire used to go through and painting rust converter on where it would be difficult later.

After much measuring and aligning, I cut the frame and tack-welded it together.

Then a filler plate into the top.

In between, some angle grinder repair (broken wire) and of course the fluxcore reel ran out and needed swapping.

@yngmar i have used old pipe to make things, wire brushes on angle grinder, rust and dust around and then i started to buy metal at https://www.metalocentras.lt/
Idk today's prices, but i have bought things around 1.30€ per kg. It's faster, funnier and do not need masks.

@mcSlibinas But I already have metal! 😁

Noted, thanks, will need some steel at some point. Although that place is a 3 hour round-trip from here. 🤔

Rust is good fertilizer for growing more steel.

@yngmar oh, look for similar shop around you. I found them when i was looking for square tubes.
Usually metal things are 6 meters long, so they can cut by your wishes as long you buy whole 6 meters.

@mcSlibinas There is a guy in Moletai, very hidden in the back of an old warehouse. Not a big selection and prices higher. But much faster to get to :)

And then there's walking around the yard and looking what I can make with what I already have. It's half the fun and each piece has a story, like our #WheelBarbie that used to be a pig fodder trough 😁

@yngmar metal trading is pretty common, there a lot of shops making things out of metal, and they can sell some leftovers too.
