@itsfoss anyone know the name of that tune? #earworm
@itsfoss my macbook air from 2014 with Ubuntu!
@manuti @itsfoss it is weird to me to see you speak about a macbook from 2014 like it is old. I used to call my "recent computer" (the newest one) the one from 2012.
@manuti @itsfoss (my other one is from 2010, and I had to buyg a new one because new app at work wants quadricore CPU I don't have but... the new one is shit... old thinkpad quality doesn't exist anymore :'(
@manuti @itsfoss (by the way if you guys have advice... I wish I could upgrade my t400 but I can't put more than a dualcore on it, and CPU is my issue (the rest is fine...)
@itsfoss I am not sure if this about software or hardware. Software I guess from the end, but at first I thought about my old thinkpad which fell a fewtimes (once from the 2nd floor in the stairs) and was fine :D like old Nokias !
@itsfoss ha ha an ssd and linux will do:) I endorse this message 🤣
@itsfoss Cool meme but the first tag messed the video up

@itsfoss #Alt4You:

A video of a sports car, labelled "my 10 year old PC", racing along a sandy road with a cliff on one side.
It drives off the edge with one wheel and begins to drop, only to stongly bounce upwards as the front hits the cliff face (video game physics?), tumbles through the air, yet somehow lands safely and drives off.
Cut to the interior of a car, with two cats in it, the driver cat is labelled "SSD", the other one "Linux" (wearing sunglasses).
There is a "It's FOSS" watermark.

@itsfoss Thinkpad X230T: 2013
Toughpad FZ-M1 my sasquatch friend found in the trash: 2014
Still my daily drivers after trying out a modern thinkpad and an MS surface.
@avesbury_rosetta Nice! Recycling old hardware is a great thing. 😃
@itsfoss Oh İT İS TOO TRUE.. I use 4gb ram , 250 gb hdd and linux . My PC can open 19 Chrome Tab!!
@itsfoss Ran a print/scanner server off an old EMachines T6000 using Puppy Linux for a few years. The hardware eventually pooped out. Fun Times!

@itsfoss Love it!

My IT guy let me be on my 11 y/o Linux PC at work instead of new Windows machines because I could get Zoom working during the pandemic (yeah not FOSS, not gonna win them all) and didn't take 10 minutes to reboot.

@itsfoss That is what is going on in my cat's head when he walks across the keyboard.
@itsfoss Choosing the best internal SSD for your needs can be a daunting task. In case of data loss or drive failure, recovering data from an SSD can be much more challenging than an HDD.
@manuelcaeiro @itsfoss Why would that be?

@holgersson
"dev by day, (voluntary) paramedic by night"
You wouldn't probably have the time to read a deep explanation on the differences of the 2 hardware types. And if you have the time and the desire to do it there are dozens of documents on the web about that. 😉

@itsfoss

@manuelcaeiro @itsfoss more the second type, actually. I read it as "data recovery from raw disks (these things inside the HDD) or flash modules" which sound both awfully complicated.

@holgersson
I have here in the bottom drawer of my desk a "2 x USB 2.0 to SATA & IDE Drive Adapter" that I used a few times to rescue data. I still don't know how to do it for an SSD - my fault, of course. 😉

@itsfoss

@itsfoss awesome! What’s the source for this meme?
@itsfoss
10 years ago was 2015. Mid to high end PCs and laptops had SATA SSDs by default before that.
@itsfoss
10 year old computer is from 2015, thats brand new

@itsfoss @void Would using systemd or not make a difference on an old machine, like K4 or C2D ?

Please Void, enlighten us 😀

@yianiris @itsfoss
You should run void linux with runit as your init with musl C library for Machine God's blessing.
@itsfoss
not more than ten years? that is young...
@Erika
@itsfoss daily user of an #X230Tablet here: I do confirm this as true!
