I'm not the biggest Sonic lore guy, so, bear with me making mistakes.

In the beginning, Amy Rose was often depicted of mainly being a fan and would-be lover of Sonic. This wasn't all of her, but certainly a trademark part.

In more recent iterations, that part is mostly gone. The IDW comics depict her as a strong fighter and leader but, and here she doesn't fall into that "girlboss" trope some people hate, all that while still sticking with the feminine stereotypes of loving pink, romance, dresses and cute stuff.

I personally like her modern depictions, because they show her as capable without saying being into "stereotypically girly" stuff is a contradiction to that.

her prominent appearance in the comics (and, to be honest, quite many fanarts she's getting), I've been exposed to her quite more than before, and I like how she's handled in the current media.

This is also why I'm looking forward to the next Sonic movie, because I hope they'll do her justice. (and because her having actual fur and quills looks SO damn good! ❤️)

I hope they don't fall into the "strong female character" trap that some others fell into: making her flawless and arrogant, which, for some reason it seems, some writers think makes a "strong character".

But I'm optimistic, seeing how well they handled emotional stuff in the third movie.

she does a great job of being a leader (albeit forced to be one), BUT you can see the strain and exhaustion it puts onto her, like it would on anyone.

So, I hope the movie writers will take a good look at how IDW handles it.

All that said: I know Sega doesn't want the established characters in romances anymore.
*I*, personally, would be totally fine with both, her and Sonic being in a romantic relationship and not, because I'd consider neither a weakness nor a problem.

But yeah, all that said: I like the current state of Amy, and I'm looking forward to the movie, hoping they'll handle her well!
