A federal judge in DC rules that Kari Lake was not lawfully appointed and that actions she took as the claimed head of USAGM “shall have no force or effect,” including last August’s RIFs at the Voice of America.
This is a major victory for those suing Kari Lake and USAGM, coming a year after the ruthless destruction of the Voice of America, a beacon of US public diplomacy as an independent broadcaster in nearly 50 languages. Only a façade remains in a few languages, pumping out administration propaganda.
The self-proclaimed acting CEO of USAGM, Kari Lake, calls Judge Lamberth's ruling "bogus" and accuses the conservative Reagan appointee of having "a pattern of activist rulings — and this case is no different. We strongly disagree with this decision and will appeal."

@newsguyusa So what does this actually mean? None of the background information I'm looking at is particularly enlightening on that question or even what Lake's {claimed) status is at USAGM. Trump appointed her as a "special advisor" in March 2025 but her wiki page indicates she's "acting CEO {disputed)," and that's what the court case seems to say - "acting CEO," not "special advisor." When did she become "assistant" to then become "acting CEO"?

This entire administration is a shitshow.

@Axomamma @newsguyusa it means nothing changes until they appeal, lose, and appeal again to #SCOTUS.
