Last week 54 members of the European Parliament wrote a letter to the European Commission President to support open social networks made in Europe. The Grok desaster shows that regulation is not enough. We need to build and we need to do it fast.

@kkarhan I'm sure the authors (and the @EUCommission) are aware of the existence of the Fediverse, but don't want to promote a specific solution in their letter, even if it is the only one.
However, I wish more of the signatories would use it themselves more actively. Currently I'm only aware of the following:
@alexandrageese @nathalieloiseau @martinhojsik @marketkag @anna_cavazzini @mattecke @daniel_freund
In my eyes, every single MEP could contribute by using their reach on Instagram, Linkedin, TikTok or even X to move some followers to transparent platforms like Mastodon and by posting there regularly.
Who is to lead the way & give an example, if not clear-thinking European democrats who have teams & a base of followers to support them?

Most of them even have paid interns if not social media / content managers to do that for them, so there's even less excuse to not do that!
I mean, I've yet to hear of an MEP who does all their social media themselves [whilst being on more than a single platform]…
Yes, they are: https://leavex.eu/posts/concrete-european-alternatives-to-x/

On January 22, MEPs Alexandra Geese and Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová were contacted per email regarding these proposals. We will publish their responses here if they answer. Dear Alexandra Geese, Dear Veronika Cifrová Ostrihoňová, Dear fellow signatories and Members of the European Parliament,
@alexandrageese as we wrote elsewhere, we're very happy to see more MEPs encouraging more use of 🇪🇺 technology... like Mastodon!
We were created here, we are an organisation with European values, and we are proud to support the European Commission's presence in the open social web.
@alexandrageese some governments already have their own (testing) Mastodon server. This should be scaled up and supported more widely with best practices and standard guidelines.
Communications with/to the public should at least include this medium.
If you then still want to post/advertise on other channels, sure, you might want to in order to diversify and broaden your reach.
But let's not make it necessary to identify your activity to 1000+ affiliates for each broadcast...
Oh, and no VV
@alexandrageese
Yes, as already mentioned by others, there's Masto and the Fediverse geared up and ready to go.
All we need is for VDL and Kallas to start making their statements on this free, open European platform first, and then with a 60 minute time delay post on the US algorithmically distorted channels that the coms team feel they can't forsake for "reach".
The journalists would join this free open European social in a jiffy.
