finally i can play with blender at home aaah
cc @cwebber relevant to your interests
@mntmn Oh my god is that with Cycles on too?!
@cwebber yep, surprisingly fast at cycles rendering
@mntmn @cwebber That's so nice, it a version of Blender specifically built for the Reform? I have to admit that is the main hurdle which would prevent me from buying one.
@papermanu @cwebber no, it's the arm64 build from postmarketos
hot take but, this chip shines when not bogged down by android

@mntmn wait the qcs6490 is coming to the pocket reform?

I'm super hyped

@mntmn that's sick! Is it the rockchip one?
@rgegriff nope, upcoming mnt quasar qcs6490 upgrade/sidegrade
@mntmn any foundry started after 1987 can't integrate circuits, all they know is design, fabless firms, government contracts, seat hot chip and die
also thanks to @cas persistence this all runs in EL2, no hypervisor and no adsp needed, incl gpu and sound support. qemu-system-aarch64 with kvm works (tested it).
@mntmn @cas Congratulations on getting so far with that chip! It does make me wonder if the RK3588-based Reform Next is obsolete before it has even shipped. Does the RK3588 still have advantages?
@matt @cas not obsolete at all:
- the rk3588 has double the ram (16gb vs 8), and if you were lucky and backed before the current crisis, 32gb
- rk3588 has a bit higher multi core cpu perf (just lower gpu perf)
- rk3588 can support up to 3 displays incl hdmi and has 7 pcie lanes (i think we use 6)
- rk3588 generally requires less binary firmware blobs for different parts of the chip
@mntmn @matt @cas Thank you for this summary!
@mntmn @matt @cas hmm kodiak cooould support up to 3 displays as well, tho definitely with more awkward conversion (DSI+eDP+DP), I wonder which of these you don't have wired
@valpackett @matt @cas ah you're right, but thundercomm didn't break out the eDP on c6490p...
@mntmn @cas no adsp? are you doing the chromebook thing of directly shoveling audio into the audio thing on the lpass whatever it was called? haha i guess from a blob-freedom perspective that's a good move

@mntmn I'm so excited about the qcs6490 for the reform.

There's a high chance I'll get one and will try to daily it when that's generally available! The rockchip wasn't quite what I'm looking for, but this is great!

@mntmn very snappy lookin!!
@mntmn ooh, that sounds like potential super mobile rig for editing photos while traveling. Do you know what's the state of OpenCL on that chip? If Rusticl with Darktable works, it puts a wide smile on my face.
@scadu apparently rusticl is supported, but need to test it
