So let me get this straight, after launching another war in the middle east with absolutely no plan, to counter a threat that doesn't exist, the US is now strengthening the only country who actually does pose a threat, undermining European security.

Absolutely shambolic, these people are not our allies.

US considers lifting more sanctions on Russian oil as Iran conflict sees global prices surge

Washington says new measures not aimed at easing restrictions on Moscow and only affect supplies already in transit

The Guardian

@jmaris The faction aligned with Vance is advocating a pullback from Europe and a reset with Russia.

American commercial involvement in Russia's energy sector would only be logical if American companies could sell that energy to customers... which, surprise surprise, are Europeans.

US companies get access to Russian energy assets, and Europe becomes the captive market for that energy, intermediated by American capital. Europe would end up paying for its own geopolitical subordination, twice: first to Washington, then to Moscow, with the profits going to the same investment class.

I have to hand it to the US, it's a masterful gambit

@budududuroiu @jmaris Power seeking immoral. I can’t call it masterful unless we want to celebrate self destruction. 🤔

@Huntn00 @jmaris there's no morality in interactions with the US, or Russia, that's pretty clear.

Also, nothing wrong with recognising good moves, even Magnus Carlsen will sometimes praise an opponent that defeated him

@budududuroiu @jmaris Not an accusation, but I resist using a description that sounds remotely like a complement when the results are so destabilizing and destructive. These people are not masters , they’re criminals. As far as geniuses, let’s see what happens to Trump, Vance, Putin, MAGA, Israel long term and if the species moves ahead or implodes.

@Huntn00 @jmaris I tend to not use labels as criminals, not on moral grounds but because, as we've seen with international law, calling someone a criminal is pretty meaningless unless there's someone willing and able to bring punishment to fit the crime.

Do I hope to see American leaders tried for warcrimes? Ya. Do I think it'll happen? Probably not

@budududuroiu @jmaris Just because the criminal gets away with it, that makes them no less a criminal, a philosophical position.
