Wisdom from Jesse Jackson’s service yesterday: “You don’t forgive because they deserve mercy. You forgive because you deserve peace. Forgiveness is an emancipation.”
@SeanCasten But forgiving someone after you've neutered them feels better.

You probably can't have peace if they're still attacking you. That's what "mindfulness meditation" is for (/s)
@SeanCasten
Forgiveness is ultimately a selfish act. I don't mean that in a bad way.
@Cameopilot @SeanCasten Personal forgiveness is one thing, but bad people still need to face consequences for their actions. I don't have a problem with a Holocaust survivor personally forgiving a nazi. But for the good of society, nazis need to be kept out of it.

@Jumpmed @SeanCasten
Forgiveness does not mean a lack of accountability. If, God forbid, someone were to kill a loved one of mine, i would expect them to serve a jail sentence for it. But if i can't forgive them, then I'm basically serving a different kind of imprisonment.

I'm not saying it would be easy in that scenario, so i would never fault someone who can't get there. But i do think there is compelling evidence that you're better off if you can.

@SeanCasten forgiveness is actually a gift you give to yourself

@SeanCasten
"dousing the flames of righteous eye for an eye spitting rage is not forgiveness"

Don Chacale

@SeanCasten Forgive AFTER they pay, not before.
