Has anyone tried any of the "kitchen composters"? I bokashi a heap of our food but it's becoming a challenge to bury and not have our dog dig it up
@paul we gave up on bokashi. it really stank when we emptied it and it was still work. we’ve been using a foodcycler eco 5 now for more than a year and it’s been great. i do wonder about its ecological impact, but given it has cut our weekly bin volume in half, there’s probably a carbon trade-off there.
@paul the size is just right for us, we run it in the kitchen every night and it’s ready in the morning, tho sometimes it can “sing” a bit loudly depending on what’s in it. what’s amazing is what it produces: no matter what we put in (an entire chicken carcass, mango pits, etc) it’s like an inert, earthy potpourri.
@paul we store it in a 5-gallon bucket that fills up in about a month. in the spring i use it to topdress the lawn, or otherwise give it to friends who have chickens as a feed supplement. feel free to ping me with any specific questions you have.
@jed great. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Our bokashi is, pungent to say the least. Even after burying it deeply our dog will dig for it because the smell is so strong.
