It's that yearly time where we must think about The Neverending Story and more specifically about whatever the fuck it was that Bastian's dad was having for breakfast. Raw eggs in orange juice?

That's been living rent-free in my head ever since I saw it as a child.

It feels like it matches his vibes of taxes and responsibilities, at least.

@mr_daemon I do remember seeing scenes on 80s tv of people trying to get fit/healthy drinking raw eggs from a glass.

Maybe blended with OJ they're like a hardcore Orange Julius

@mr_daemon I always.saw it as showing that Bastian's dad was the kind.of guy who was both deeply weird and absolutely refusing to acknowledge this.

@madengineering In hindsight it could be how he dealt with his grief, alongside responsibilities and mail. Drown it in OJ and Eggs.

At least the discussion about how he should stop being sad about his dead mom had this asmr quality to it lol

@mr_daemon @madengineering

This was also supposedly a hangover cure, suggesting Bastian's dad may have been prone to excessive drinking as a coping strategy against grief..

>In "Die unendliche Geschichte" haut Bastians Dad ein Ei in ein Glas O-Saft und trinkt es roh. Das wird oft als Katermittel benutzt

@mr_daemon Thanks...I don't think I ever noticed that... ๐Ÿคข
@mr_daemon I mean itโ€™s in Rocky as well. In End of Days, Arnold blends coffee, beer, and raw eggs.

@mr_daemon that was a very 80s thing in movies and tv shows. I never knew anyone who did it either.

it was pretty weird.

@mr_daemon

Read the book they based the movie on. The movie is only the first part of the long novel. The real world turns out to be a fake dream Bastian is having because the Childlike Empress is harvesting his dark wizard ass for the energy needed to rebuild after the Nothing attacked. She's in a wizard duel with him trying to trap him in a fake world where he can suffer without any options to save himself. The "neverending" part is the stable time loop where he realizes he was delusional, comes back to reality, then he tries to call the Nothing to unmake the false world and sucks his energy back into himself. Each time he wins she tries to imprison him again. The book starts mid sentence and ends with the first half of it, implying they're in a stable loop.

@mr_daemon It's called "Ogg Juice", IIRC, and it was a thing before protein powders and other such nutritional supplements took over. Throwing raw eggs into random things was a health craze as a quick-add protein supplement.
@mr_daemon Wasn't that a thing in Rocky as well?
