It took a ton of work but we got our city to end the contract with #Flock, one of the creepiest and most dishonest #surveillance companies, on Wednesday!

One of the biggest obstacles was the threat of actually good programs being de-funded because of the way Hochul/ NYS bundles mass surveillance with other programs in grant allocations.

This threat ended up not being real, but it almost torpedoed the whole thing last minute.

Our city council in Austin TX finally made the right call. But this is Texas, and our taxes are paying for a 3-year $17M contract between Flock and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Nothing the city can do about it. There are literally hundreds of the cameras installed in Travis County alone. The surveillance state is here.
