#QualitativeResearch #AcademicChatter question: Are there online software platforms that facilitate free sorting? I.e. participants individually sort statements a into a freely chosen number of piles and give those piles a name? (This is the sorting step in Group Concept Mapping.) The commonly used platforms like Qualtrics or RedCAP don't support this AFAIK.
@haraldkliems I was quickly checking ODK (https://docs.getodk.org/form-question-types/) but without luck. The easiest way might be to present the items to sort into groups as a list with a text input next to it. Subjects could then enter numbers or letters next to each item, giving arbitrary group assignments.

@schuemaa Thanks! Yeah, workarounds are possible, but I don't think they make for a great user experience, especially as this type of exercise already has a lot of cognitive load for participants and so you want to make it as easy as possible for them.
