You remember yesterdays periscope video of a US sub sinking an Iranian ship off Sri Lanka?

I thought this was propaganda, but find several sources see below) as to what really happened.

So, what do we think about the almighty US sinking a defenceless ship - and watching survivors drown.

@MarkHoltom A new low, even for a regime where "new low" is a pretty tough bar

@MarkHoltom

This is stunning. Not beyond what we might anticipate but still stunning, shameful, sickening.

I do not want to be a part of this— and it reads as an effort to repulse anyone with even the weakest moral compass from participating in the military or the US side of international politics at all: this is criminal and just because it was far away and our media can’t be bothered to talk about it I don’t think we can forget it.

And it puts all at risk of retaliation.

@MarkHoltom I think this is the first "war shot" torpedo by a US submarine in many decades. It was a fuckup. They are out of practice.

I suggest the US submarines get their groove back by sinking a few dozen Russian oil tankers.

@MarkHoltom
We (the US) are the terrorists. I'm angry and ashamed.
@MarkHoltom There will need to be a purge or the US military after this regime falls. All those following illegal orders, violating their sworn oath, need to be court-martialed and removed from service. Those that participated in crimes against humanity need to have criminal trials similar to those in Nuremberg.
@MarkHoltom
I want to preface my question by clearly stating that this was unethical. From a legal perspective, would this be considered a war crime? They were defenseless, but at the same time it was a military target.

@MarkHoltom

An all American Lusitania moment.

@MarkHoltom

I'll take what is a war crime for $1 thanks

@MarkHoltom As a former US Navy submariner, I am ashamed of my country's PEACETIME behavior. It is unbecoming of this country, this Navy, and it is damn sure unbecoming of this commander in chief.

@MarkHoltom it’s still propaganda. As you know, the best propaganda isn’t a straight out lie, just slanted.

Where would this warship be going? Home? Through an active war zone where most of their compatriots have been sunk? How did they even expect to defend themselves? That’s incompetence and they died for it.

Second, where do you expect to put 90 people on a submarine? It’s not like they have the room, and the crew is already only 160. (Assuming a Virginia class sub, which seems plausible since there were four Australians on board)

@MarkHoltom @futurebird As I vaguely recall, that was prosecuted as a war crime in WWII (leaving the survivors to drown)
@MarkHoltom .. USA forces are the most untrustworthy of any country. It's always shoot first, then check if the murder victim was an enemy. Remember the USA shot more UK troops in the back in the first week of the Iraq war than shot by Iraqis!
