I keep wondering what it will take to get (mostly rural) Blue Ontario to break from Ford and the Cons. I get that most of them love how much he trashes Toronto (I mean, I don't get it, but it's a long-standing tradition), but the crumbling health care system, rampant corruption and attacks on education (from child care through grad studies) should surely be the trigger? Apparently not. As long as someone else is suffering worse than them, they'll focus on gloating about that rather than pushing for change.

Yup.
Don't get me wrong there are a few activists trying to make changes but they are not seeing enough support from the majority, who are just like the "helpless" in their own mind, and politically disconnected USians.
I cringe every time I hear a Canadian say,
"I don't watch the news because it is too stressful"
My response:
"Well if you watched the news, and participated in elections as an informed voter, the news would be Less Stressful!"
Another long standing tradition is Canadians, in this case specifically Ontarians, enjoy complaining but not taking action.
