Removing physical buttons from hardware was one of the worst product design decisions in history and everyone involved should be publicly shamed.
@tommorris The worst variation of this are buttons that are raised to look like physical buttons but are still capacitive. Washing machines are guilty of this and I hope the product manager responsible has been fired
@tommorris but don't you know? Touchscreen icons are so much more appealing. Sarcasm of course.
@tommorris "Come the glorious revolution, comrades, all those that were responsible for removing physical buttons from hardware will be taken outside, lined up and forced to use the devices that they designed."
@tommorris
My first smartphone, HTC something, had a trackpad! That was great. Why would like physical buttons back.
Especially in cars !

@tommorris @missbullitt

But physical buttons are subject to failure.
How can you expect to last 10 years if you keep physical buttons ?

Wait…

@sous_mon_masque @tommorris @missbullitt I'm now imagining a piece titled "Is Model M the Ultimate LART?" in El Reg's BOFH section.

@tommorris

With the possible exception of that god-awful physical keyboard on the Blackberry phones. I believe I read that it was an obsession of the CEO of Blackberry at the time that they kept a 'real' keyboard.

@bytebro I have a mobile device with a real keyboard and I love it. Miles easier to type on than a virtual keyboard.

@dfs_comedy

Wow. Thank the Goddess we are all different. I hated those, after a while of a company-mandated Blackberry phones.

@tommorris We can blame Steve Jobs for this trend. No ugly buttons to break those cool sleek iGarbage lines...
@tommorris This goes double for vehicles
@tommorris I moss hardware keyboards on phones. I loved that era
@Catwoman69y2k kinda fascinated by https://www.clicks.tech/ for keeping the dream alive.

@tommorris I’d never seen anybody make so many spelling mistakes in the word “guillotined” before.
