Mar 3-8: Sound Off Festival of Deaf theatre & performing arts. At Fringe HQ, pay what you can.

Mar 5-15: SkirtsAfire Festival celebrates women & gender minorities in theatre & performing arts. Various locations, tix <$30/show.

Mar 6-7: Edmonton Craft Beer Festival at the Expo Centre. Admission starts at $32, not including any samples. Hopefully they don't cross over too much with:

Mar 6-8: Wildlife Festival at the Expo Centre has a variety of exotic animals on displays. $21, with additional tix for hands-on experiences.

Mar 6,8,13,20,27: FAVA Fest from the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta features works by their member independent filmmakers, with collections of shorts screened on consecutive Fridays at Metro Cinema, The Orange Hub, and Capitol Theatre, plus a feature film on March 8, various workshops, then an awards show the final week.

Mar 8 (Sunday): International Women's Day

Mar 12-14: IglooFest a cross-Canada touring electronic music festival with headliners including Alison Wonderland and DeadMau5, at the Ice District Fan Park, $53 to $84 per day or $169 for the weekend (or more for VIP).

Mar 13-14: SING! Edmonton A Cappella Festival with a feature concert on Friday night, workshops & insta-choir on Satruday, and a showcase concert Saturday night. $55/weekend or individual tix.

Mar 14 (Sat): Arts District Day with free activities & performances at the AGA, Winspear, & Citadel.

Mar 20-28: Expanse Festival, from Theatre Azimuth at Fringe HQ, celebrates dance, clowning, and other movement-based performance art. Pay-what-you-will tickets ($35 suggested).

Mar 21 (Sat): The Art Bus will be shuttling people between the Art Gallery of Alberta and 8 smaller downtown galleries, for free, noon to 5pm.

Mar 21-22: Country Music Alberta Awards with various performances at the Edmonton Convention Centre. Tix $22+up.

Mar 24-29: Springboards: A New Play Festival hosted by Workshop West presents staged readings of, you got it, new plays. Pay-what-you-will tickets ($40 suggested). Full schedule TBA.

❄️THE DOWNTOWN DEFROST 2026❄️ Edmonton’s Annual Outdoor Winter Dance Event April 3 & 4, 2026 @ Sir Winston Churchill Square. As a Northern winter city, when spring-time hits and the snow melts, there is a buzz within the City of Edmonton. Residents are quick to get outside and celebrate the passing of yet another Canadian winter. The Downtown Defrost has captured this spirit by providing Edmontonians an outdoor electronic music festival that celebrates the city’s diverse electronic-music artists and dance scene. Launched in 2015, the Downtown Defrost is a family-friendly winter celebration of dance music and culture, produced by a non-profit organization “The Factory Music & Arts LTD.” in collaboration with local group Night Vision Music. This annual event typically sees an outdoor Edmonton space transformed into a fun dance party featuring lights, installations, and some of the city's favorite DJs alongside international talent. This is an ASL improv led and performed by Deaf artists. Join us live and share your comments to set the location, relationships, and theme! The group has been supported and graduated by Hypernovas Production's ASL Improv 101 courses.

  • Ms Pat's Kitchen, a family-relationship drama in the context of a restaurant owned by Jamaican immigrants, at AtsHub Ortona Mar 5-8.
  • I Am Eagle, a puppetry work using the metaphor of a eagle chick to discuss the "60s Scoop" experience, at Walterdale Theatre, Mar 6-7.
  • Put Your Lips Together a "surreal neon-noir" piece about workplace harrassment in the context of conversations at a candlelight vigil for a murdered woman. Mar 10 & 12 at Gateway.
  • Sparklers a collection of short pieces for young audiences, Mar 11 at Gateway Theatre.
  • Things I Shouldn't Tell You, a stand-up show about middle aged womanhood, at Walterdale, Mar 12-15.
  • EmBODYment, a collection of dance/motion pieces, at La Cité's Servus Theatre, Mar 13-14.

All shows $30 or less.

Plays at Expanse Festival (Mar 20-29) include:

  • The F Word is a whimsical exploration of fatphobia and body positivity.
  • Cycle about urban design & transportation, performed while cycling.
  • Phantom Limbs used dance & technology to explore memory, sensation, and disability (at the Moment Discovery space downtown).
  • Ultra Violets explores queer club dance culture.
  • Binding takes a clowning approach to the transmasc/non-binary experience of living with breasts.

All shows pay-what-you-will with $35 suggested, in one of the Fringe HQ performance spaces except as noted.

Mar 8 (Sunday): The monthly Script Salon from the Writers' Guild of Alberta (readings of new or work-in-progress plays) will be featuring Monologues for Women for International Women's Day. At Holy Trinity Church (upstairs arts space), 7:30pm, by donation.

Mar 8, 11, & 13: The Edmonton International Film Festival hosts screening of this year's Oscar nominated shorts with separate programs for the animated short, documentary short, and live-action short categories. At Metro Cinema, $15/session.

Mar 7 - Apr 12: The Citadel production of The Wizard of Oz is based on the classic movie musical. Cheapest remaining seats I could find were $80 (and up to $180).

Mar 10-15: A touring production of Les Misérables lands at the Jubilee. $71-200.

Mar 13-22: Cry-Baby: The Musical is based on a "cult classic" film (of which I am unfamiliar) about a relationship between a tough guy & a strait-laced sweetheart. $32 with discounts.

Mar 18-22: UAlberta Drama senior year class presents Paradise Lost. $5-15, pay what you can.

Mar 20-21: âcimowin indigenous storytelling series at the Fringe's Backstage Theatre. $26.

Mar 26 (Thurs): Un barrage contre le Pacifique, presented by Alliance Française Edmonton at La Cité, tells the story of an elegant expat facing off against forces of nature. In French with English surtitles. 7pm, $17.

Mar 27-28: Alberta Ballet performs Swan Lake at the Jubilee. $96-240.

Apr 1-11: Deserters from UAlberta Drama is a new play with no clear plot description. But something to do with war & political debate. $25 with discounts.
