I spent some time deep diving "emergency/disaster preparedness in case of war" and basically the only advice I was able to find in books and online was: "don't be where there is war - GTFO".

#war #emergencypreparedness

@ai6yr https://www.tribulationsurvival.com/TSG/SG/SF_0024.pdf ....I felt this was decent. But it was posted on a rapture survival website...
@chapulin Oooh, thanks. Reading through, aligns with what I have run into in the past.
@ai6yr my main takeaway was make sure to hoard lots of cigarettes or equivalent for trading. Oh and ammo and guns or people will take your cigarettes.
@chapulin @ai6yr are you looking for resources? I can give you solid list of sources to look at Bruce Clayton "Life after Doomsday" https://www.amazon.com/Life-After-Doomsday-Bruce-Clayton/dp/0873641752 is decent and Listening to Katrina blog only on wayback now at https://web.archive.org/web/20080923181008if_/http://www.theplacewithnoname.com:80/blogs/klessons/p/map.html

@chapulin @ai6yr I can give more resources, but I know Ben is a HAM so not sure how much and what direction of info you already have.
@chapulin @ai6yr Oh Nuclear War Survival Skills or NWSS, by Cresson Kearny, is a civil defense manual is good can get some version of it on Amazon but it was originally Civil Defense publication IIRC https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/ADA328301.pdf
@CliffsEsport @ai6yr I'll check those out. Thanks!
@chapulin @ai6yr There is lot of fiction from Heinlein and Niven/Pournelle that actually includes real stuff. Heinlein was scared that nuclear war would happen his Farnham's Freehold details lot of the stuff he did with his own house. And Lucifer's Hammer also has lot of stuff. Think Pournelle was friends with Mel Tappin one of the '70s survivalist/disaster prep writers
@CliffsEsport @chapulin Oh, I was just saying... most of the options are varying degrees of "life sucks"
@ai6yr @chapulin Yeah that is the reality vs fiction. And even for those with resources to relocated, at this point. not clear to me where would even be a good place. In the early days of this administration I was thinking if I had resources Greenland or Iceland. kind of glad didn't have the resources.
Download or order the brochure In case of crisis or war

The brochure “In case of crisis or war” provides advice on how to prepare yourself and what you should do in the event of crisis or war.

@ClimateJenny Ah yes, that is "basic emergency kit" kind of stuff... Thanks!
@ai6yr @ClimateJenny Boy, it would be nice to just be worried from external invasion, rather than fascists at home.
@ai6yr it does kinda suck. Yelp 0/5, terrible.
@ai6yr I'm aware that this is the most reasonable approach but I'm not moving from my forest 30km away from borders with Belarus and Ukraine.

@ai6yr

Leaving is by far the best option.

I think after watching a bunch of Ukraine war footage, your next best option is find or make a hole to hide in.

Civilians often end up in subway systems or basements. Soldiers spend a lot of time making dugouts.

If you don't have a hole, get as far inside a building, and as far away from glass as you can.

If you're near the front line as a civilian, you're screwed. (If you're a soldier you're also screwed)

FPV drones with thermal vision is basically facing terminators.

It was bad enough Russia tried sending troops on multi day trips through abandoned gas pipes to try and avoid the drone attacks. Their soldiers got poisoned, and then bombed when they got out of the pipe.

What to do if you spot an Iranian Shahed drone

A feeling familiar to millions of Ukrainians was suddenly experienced across the Middle East over the weekend — the terror caused by Shahed drones flying overhead and smashing into buildings. Footage flooded social media as Iran launched drones and missiles in retaliatory strikes in response to the U.S.-Israeli bombardment that began on Feb. 28. "Welcome to the club, guys," Vladislav Vlasiuk, the Ukrainian president's representative on sanctions policy, told the Kyiv Independent when asked wha

This is probably about as much fun as you can have before an air raid.

@Cristobalm @ai6yr amazon???? NOPE.
@geonz @Cristobalm The book, not the retailer...
@geonz @ai6yr Relax. It’s just a listing. No one says you have to buy it through them. I checked it out digitally through my local library back in the day.
