Worth checking if your library gives you access to the Freegal music platform. On it you get 5 free mp3 downloads a week and unlimited music streaming. The catalog is a bit patchy but there's plenty of good stuff there. Over the course of a few months I've been using my 5 downloads a week to build up a collection of songs and albums I love but didn't yet own and to support local artists
@joannaholman Unfortunately, Brisbane City Council Library does not participate.
@pharsicle not sure how it works in QLD but many Victorian libraries allow members who live anywhere in the state (you just have to go to a branch to sign up). My freegal access is through the library near where I work, not the one closest to my home
@joannaholman That might work, although BCC covers a very large area.
@joannaholman @pharsicle I know this is the case in NSW too, at least for Parramatta Library (which does offer Freegal). So 100% worth checking if that's true in Queensland as well (I Imagine it would be!)

In NSW, becoming a local library member also gives you access to all the digital resources the State Library subscribes to as well. So there's things like newspaper archives and academic journals beyond what your local library offers.

Again, worth checking for Qld.
@aj I’ll explore further with BCC Library. I already use Libby with that membership. @joannaholman
