Any Hugo devs who could help me with SEO for the Palestine: Spaces and Politics curriculum website?

I created the website using a slightly modified version of the ananke theme for #Hugo, but it hasn't been showing up in search results, no matter what I do.

I followed the common checklists:

- `<meta name=robots content="index, follow">` in the header
- All the og meta tags
- Meaningful titles and descriptions for pages

@majdal not a Hugo dev but I’ve worked with other static sites (mainly jekyll and 11ty). It all looks fine when I put it on tag checkers like Hey Meta

I know I’ve seen folks report that personal sites/blogs are getting bumped way down in google results or delisted entirely the past couple years and I wonder if that’s happening to you as well. Either lumped in with small/independent sites generally or under hiding Palestinian justice stuff :/

Have you tried authenticating with the Google Search Console thing as the site admin and seeing what your crawl status is or if it gives any errors?

@cassey oooh, that looks super useful. Going through the various pages using Hey Meta now.

I hadn't checked with the Google Search Console, but I will do so now. From a preliminary look, it looks like the website is completely not indexed by Google. I have to get the colleague who has the credentials to the domain name registrar to add the TXT DNS record. Unfortunately he's in Lebanon and hiding from Israeli rockets, so he's not responsive.

What a surreal world we live in.

Thank you for the tips 🙏

@majdal I think if the site is new, it may be that it just hasn't been "found" by Google crawlers yet but you can request indexing and hopefully bump your site up in the queue. No guarantees though 🙃

Wishing safety and courage to your friend - surreal sounds right!
