The amazing realization everyone is having is that Bluesky hands out permabans for blocking their moderation bot account, but a malicious user can invite people to subscribe to what appears to be a valid block list, then set the list to block the moderation account and get every subscriber threatened with account termination.

This revelation is happening at the same time as one of the devs openly bragging about vibe coding.

@Adorable_Sergal Yup. Gotta Shrug Life that shit. (Im very much avoidant of saying "I told you so" in instances like this. So, not much I can say to the people finding these things out)
@Catwoman69y2k some users have been warning for a while now that block lists are an extremely bad idea but I think most have to learn the hard way
@Adorable_Sergal For me, just seeing that blocklists were mandatory public was enoigh for me to go "nope". Given the harassment I have experienced, once from the business end of WGM, Im not okay with that.
@Catwoman69y2k the whole thing being public, making locked accounts impossible to implement, is a huge red flashing light. I don't know why some users keep hoping locked accounts will be implemented someday, it cannot be done, not now, not ever
@Adorable_Sergal People were going from one corp owned enshittified thing to another. This is the thing I wanted people to listen to/understand back when Bsky was first starting up. Maybe people did realize it at day jump, but other instant gratification and complacency thought processes had already set in

@Catwoman69y2k @Adorable_Sergal I think the broader thing is that most people just don't care about enshitification. They're so used to it that they just expect it as normal. So when you tell someone what's coming, it doesn't matter to them because they think everything is that way.

Most of these people have also been told that alternatives like the fediverse are horrible, confusing, and that everyone on them is some form of obnoxious. Which is probably at least in part true, everyone tends ot overreact a bit when trying to protect others. But all of it adds up to the same ending. People go to spaces like BlueSky, Discord, etc, and evnetually hit the same brick walls of enshitification over and over while refusing to move to spaces where that isn't a thing.

@xoagray @Adorable_Sergal What you described is exactly why I chose to save myself the trip and not go with the same old Corporate run bullshit.

(and I do agree that the Fedi has its share of bad behavoir, racism, classism, ableism, reply guys and gaslighters, etc. We are not perfect over here.)

@Catwoman69y2k @Adorable_Sergal Yeah, it's impossible to avoid every problem. But at least here we only have to worry about the usual social media issues for the most part. And not things like "One person could make a decision that ruins all of this forever" type of things.
It's not care free, but I'll take it over the usual any day.
@Adorable_Sergal Holy shit I knew bluesky's moderation system was bad, but I didn't know it was That Bad™

@dragonarchitect there is a kind of poetry to a cluster of techbros high on their own supply believing that atproto is so good that they should solve all of their problems with it.

This will not be the last disaster.
