The ambivalent attitude of the government, no, the exaggerated liberal narrative about #humanrights in #Iran and #Lebanon as motivation for this war, is irresponsible and ultimately even works against the #Netherlands' own interests:

1. This war never started because of the interests and concerns of the people of Iran. If that were the case, there would have been intervention many times before, after every cycle of death waged against the opposition in that country. More importantly, however, it must be realised that the population of Iran is seen solely as a means to further the interests of the #UnitedStates, Israel and the states that align themselves with them. Everyone in Iran is suffering from the consequences of this new war initiated by the United States and Israel, including the opposition and forces loyal to the system.

2. When you are dead, your human rights are of little importance. Many cities are being bombed. This sets a precedent for more hatred and aversion in the West. It causes people to flee their homes and hearths, and it may lead people to seek revenge for everything that has been done to them by the West.

3. Fuel prices are skyrocketing.

4. With this war, the US will further bring Europe under its sphere of influence if it does not distance itself from it and cooperate. Remember, the US is the country that declared a few months ago that it wants to politically restructure Europe and is threatening to take over Greenland. This is still on the table.

5. The credibility of so-called "#internationallaw", the appeal to "human rights" and so on has been literally swept aside by some European leaders (including Friedrich #Merz). This sets a precedent for a further policy of the law of the strongest, instead of calling the US to order and showing other countries that we are a reliable partner. The #US is not this for #Europe, for Netherlands.

6. Human rights, press freedom and democracy are all under pressure in the US and #Israel. Israel even committed #genocide recently. If European leaders engage with such regimes and maintain warm relations with them, we must fear for our own rights and freedoms, our own security.
