I would very much like a:

  • Soundcloud alternative
  • that is self-hostable
  • that has version control options (ie. you can upload an updated version of a song that lives alongside the old version, you can compare how the song has changed)
  • creates shareable links, and listeners can leave comments.

I have yet to find a convincing alternative. I am thinking Nextcloud is the obvious choice with the right Add-On but I am not sure if I'm ready to spend time trying to code this. #musicians #nextcloud #soundcloud

@knova I started making this a while ago so that I could manage the music that I make but that took a backseat to wavepin which is a decentralized method of archiving, distributing, and proving ownership of music based on IPFS. if you still want a local Soundcloud type thing, let me know and I could finish what I started.

@flutttr Wavepin certainly looks cool although it might be overkill for what I'm trying to achieve. I could never ask you to divert attention to develop something, but if you did pick development back up, I could contribute in what small way I could + donate towards your time.

I am somewhat opinionated on what this tool should provide; everything I've seen 'out there' right now is overly complex, and i'm looking for a simple solution. I could even mock up the vision if it was helpful, I am not certain how far along in development you were.

@knova I had gotten to the point of having everything working except sharing lol. But yeah if you have some mock ups or requirements, I'd love to take a look
