Neil Sedaka
was accepted into the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, but was ultimately prevented from competing by Soviet authorities. Officials objected to his background in popular, "capitalistic" rock-and-roll music, despite his intense classical training, leading to his disqualification.
