GrapheneOS: Talks shit about Fairphone and their 'ancient' hardware on socials, not considering them as an option at all.

Also GrapheneOS: Partners with Motorola/Lenovo despite more devices in their lineup having relatively mediocre chipsets than not.
i was looking up Motorola's offerings after the announcement, and for some reason Razr 60 Ultra has the same price as Galaxy S25 Edge with better specs in almost every aspect (apart from Razr having bigger refresh rate of the display)
@[email protected] Yeah, they have a couple flagships, and nothing else they offer (Moto G, G Play, G Power, G Stylus) has near as good hardware.

I just think it's funny considering their past shit-flinging, 'cause I think it would be very silly of them to stick to the flagships. I don't think they're near as popular as Moto's other offerings.
i think it would be really interesting if Lenovo/Motorola would release another ThinkPhone as a part of this collaboration
@[email protected] If only any carriers in my region gave a shit about Motorola in the first place
I wanted that last ThinkPhone, but nobody had it, and I couldn't buy it direct until it was obsolete.
@[email protected] Like, Motorola devices are in the same position Sony devices were before they just disappeared as an option from our region completely. I know Xperia phones still exist, but they just kinda don't here.
@[email protected] I think Moto's saving grace is their budget options. Sony didn't really have any here, and their marketing was practically non-existent.
@[email protected] Nobody in their right mind is gonna blow >$1000 on an unknown
i am eternally thankful that we here in Ukraine don't have this bullshit with carriers selling phones
though it still manages to plague second-hand markets, i have a Verizon Pixel 4 as my Google Pay phone and also a Verizon Galaxy S4 laying around
@[email protected] No kidding. Carrier-branded and locked phones are a blight. Thank fuck Canada's regulatory board made SIM locking against the law nearing a decade ago.

...and they've done not much of substance since.
@maddy @link I always bought my smartphones at an electronics store (except for my first smartphone that was gifted to me), and just carried over the sim card, so I've never been dependent on carriers' hardware offerings. Though maybe electronics stores don't sell as much smartphones in your country as they do in Germany.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Only in the last decade have big box stores in Canada slowly started to carry unlocked phones. The selection is usually trash. They don't bring in anything but cheap no-name phones, or the safe bets like the iPhones, Samsung Galaxy, Pixel.

But everyone just goes to the carriers anyway because they do financing, or charge you for the privilege of borrowing a phone before having to return it
undamaged after two years - brilliant
@[email protected] @[email protected] There's basically no incentive for stores to stock anything outside of the most common (or profitable) devices because of the above. It's infuriating.
