IDAlert is a European project to tackle the spread of infectious diseases in a changing climate

This is an overview of the project in cartoons in 21 pages: https://idalertproject.eu/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/IDAlert-book-1.pdf

In this thread some of my favourites!

It's the work of visual storyteller Betje Ton (check her out!: https://www.betje.com/) #BetjeTon

It's #CreativeCommons (BY-NC-ND)

#IDAlert is funded by the #EuropeanUnion

#IDAlert is important because as the climate is changing, some infectious diseases will (re-)emerge and spread.

IDAlert provides methods to monitor and
forecast the risk of climate-sensitive infectious diseases

For governments, health care professionals and individuals

For instance, gathering, processing, and making available data.

That's the work of https://lancetcountdown.org/ The Lancet Countdown. For policymakers to take science-based decisions.

#IDalert

With data provided by citizens.

Two of those supported by #IDAlert are #TickRapporteur and #MosquitoAlert

Get then on your phone and contribute to #CitizenScience !

With good data and citizen science, decision-makers can take measures to prevent the disease spread.

Such as applying larvicides in the storm drains. In #Barcelona, this resulted in a drop in 94% of the mosquito population.

#IDAlert

Europeโ€™s climate is increasingly suitable for certain disease-carrying vectors, BUT there is still much we can do to prevent their spread.

- The evidence and forecasts IDAlert generates provide essential insights for policymakers and health professionals

- Urban planners can use IDAlertโ€™s research to design cities that minimise the creation of vector breeding sites.

- Citizens can also contribute to this researchโ€”while staying well informed

Way to go #IDAlert !!

@rafa_font This image is a cartoon illustration featuring two anthropomorphic mosquitoes with light blue wings and brown striped bodies. The mosquito on the left has a speech bubble stating, "MEANWHILE, WE'VE BEEN INVITED TO ZERO STAKEHOLDER MEETINGS." with the word "ZERO" underlined. The mosquito on the right has a speech bubble that reads, "Even though we have a huge stake!" Both mosquitoes have long legs, large eyes, and expressive facial features. The artist's signature, "BETJE," is written in cursive near the bottom left corner of the image.
