Apparently there are rumours that Windows 12 is coming this year and will not only double down on Copilot, but introduce a subscription model for it, despite requiring an NPU.

I refuse to believe Microsoft is stupid enough to try the heated seats DRM trick.

@emilyyoung been transferring all my windows desktop and onedrive files over to a home server in prep for switching to linux this week (lotta music and photos to organize in the process) so i really don't care what they do anymore. fam are either luddites or apple folk already so i don't have to even support it afterwards.

11 got so annoying, trying SO HARD to make AI happen, not to mention the basically-required-now ms account stuff and ads. Unlocking people's "encrypted" drives. Fuck MS. They even fucked up XBOX - when they were doing really well - by requiring unreasonable margins from the unit. It's all end-stage capitalism bullshit from every company, they're all trying to squeeze people that already have NO FUCKING MONEY.

Trying to rent people their computers back to them might actually be what gets people back into meatspace. With any luck, once everybody starts talking to one another again, they'll realize why everything sucks so bad now. Then the owners will have something to worry about besides margins and lines going up.
