My biggest peeve is not distinguishing between the two at all— you attempt to sign in with what you think is your account name / address and it turns out you just signed up for another account. It’s awful.

Better yet. You remember that you have an account, but you don't remember the email you signed up with. There's a convenient "sign in with Google" button. You click that. You end up with a brand new account because the email on your existing one was evidently not the Gmail one.

@louie Yep, we had this pattern in our app and we had to deal with a lot of support issues over this. Users confused where their data went after they signed into (what they thought was) their account. Even distinguishing log-in vs sign-up doesn’t completely solve the issue, as we had many users who simply didn’t remember whether they had an account and would create a new one.

We eventually switched to only support Sign In With Apple and it solved the issue.
