Do you go around asking for a fediblock for every instance that has a US military veteran? The US military is directly responsible for a lot of death and suffering, and some of it is even very recent.
@emmy “having” is one thing and “being composed of” is another. and also, this really is less a matter of personal work history (the imagined US military veteran may no longer stand for the wars they’d engaged in, in retrospect, and not make that part of their personality) and more a matter of a person’s current beliefs
to clarify, if there’s an instance entirely dedicated to military stuff, definitely fuck them, but one user of many having been involved with it at one point in their life is a different case
@zaire But lizzy is just stating opinions (and shitposts), not actively involved in the harm done. Unlike the hypothetical veteran whose being in the military directly benefits US power (even if they never got deployed). Also navi (the other user of that instance) doesn't post about politics, so fediblocking her seems unfair.
And you seem to give more benefit of the doubt to a soldier of the oppression than to another leftist. Is it possible that you internalized some US propaganda without realizing it? Treating communists as the worst evil is literally CIA propaganda. The CIA would rather help nazis over communists.
