We saw only one person on todays run (the odd passing vehicle doesn’t count). Coming over the brow of a hill, I could smell a familiar pong almost 1k away. I mentioned this as we passed the lad applying creosote and he was happy to leap into a monologue extolling the perfumes and his favourites for changing times of the year. A true enthusiast - and knowledgeable. I am not sure I would be happy to be that familiar.

@Wen I can smell the creosote from here, it is one of those scents you'll never ever forget the smell of

@Wen There is a John Hegley poem called The Difference between a Dog and a Shed which from memory (because Internet search has failed me) is: You wouldn’t give a dog a good coat of creosote.

Hegley is famously a dog lover, in case it seems otherwise.

@Wen what is creosote
@pewterbaw It’s a tar based treatment for wood. It weatherproofs it, frequently available as a strong smelling liquid and carcinogenic!
@Wen thank you! I’ve heard the word but never knew what it was.
Love the smell of creosote! Man, I've not smelled it for YEARS. That, and WD-40 are two of my favourite smells.
