@jonty And there @mattgrayyes is cursing that they made their own electric car to electric bike conversion plug from scratch...
(edited to add link to Matt's post at https://chaos.social/@mattgrayyes/116120182750135095 and video at https://youtube.com/watch?v=i6IyukCIia8 )
I hacked car charging to work with my electric bike! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6IyukCIia8
@jiub This feels like way more of a risk-level. Adapter with protocol translator doing up to 50kW between two DC standards...
@jonty Oki, being aliexpress this probably does not complay to standards, but these kinda adapters are not all that unique, are they?
The car probably need to support V2L, but several do and you can get these adapters for those cars.
@jonty Unusual, probably because I would assume there is rarely a need for it, is not often you have a type 2 socket and need a "regular outlet".
Going from an "controllable" AC outlet (like these type 2 outlets) to a regular outlet should not be all too tricky. The opposite way (regular outlet to type2) requires a lot more
@jonty I have the fun situation though having a Chademo car and the amount of chademo chargers going down, and being near non-existent outside Norway.
The "lill" adapter I need cost around 1000 europs and may or may not be legal to use :O
@jonty fun thing: there’s a motorcycle OEM that sells a J1772 to IEC C13 adapter for some of their older/smaller motorcycle models: https://zeromotorcycles.com/accessories/products/j1772-charging-adapter
so you could totally just plug your computer into a EVSE that way
@jonty I bought something vaguely related recently although a little less cursed. My car charges from a 13A plug (basically a built in extension lead) but I'd like to be able to use public chargers.
Your device would've also worked 😁
@jonty me, out loud, to an empty room, upon processing what I was looking at:
“oh nooo”
