Caught a bobcat on the trailcam carefully placing its paws in the footprints I had made a couple days before in the deep snow. When it gets to where I turned around, it looks around and decides - nope, not going out there, and turns to go down to the brook.

@danmccullough You have a bobcat! Wonderful!

My nearby wildlife refuge caught a bobcat on a trail cam last year for the first time ever. This is VERY unexpected but quite exciting.

@ClimateJenny Hopefully the refuge will get more sightings! I find that they don’t use the trail as much as the foxes and smaller mammals.
@danmccullough How do they feel about sharing space with coyotes?
@ClimateJenny Right! That’s a good question. I rarely see a bobcat the same week I see coyote.
@danmccullough The refuge has a well-established coyote population. It’s adorable when they hear sirens nearby and start singing along.

@danmccullough Wow, this is really neat. I saw one last summer and was stunned to be face to face over a creek.

I hope you and I both get to see the bobcats again.

@forestfern I think we have a decent population of them and I’ve only come face to face with one (also while it was at a creek!) in the years I’ve been here so maybe we both will get to see more.
@danmccullough Heard there's more and more here in MI, too. Let's hope we see them again!
@danmccullough
Whoa! Great video, Dan! Interesting how it put its paws in your footprints.
@danmccullough What kind of trail cam is that?
@MaierAmsden GardePro A3S. Does great at night though doesn’t trigger as far to the sides as I would like.
@danmccullough Thanks! I've had four that were not as good. My last one [Tasco 119275C] is cheap and fairly reliable, but the images are bad and the video is worse. That reminds me - time to pull some more fuzzy stills from the back yard!
@danmccullough It's got some junk in the trunk and knows how to use it
