Louise Adler sets the record straight on Adelaide Writers' Week

The Adelaide Writers’ Week (AWW) debacle might have served as a “life lesson” to politicians and lobbyists about the risks involved in interfering with the independence of arts organisations. But as we have seen at Newcastle and the Sydney Writers Festival some are apparently slow learners.

Pearls and Irritations
@msdropbear
What is not mentioned is Dr Bell’s article (the premises of which I totally agree with) is the prevalence of #religious #exceptionalism in Australian society, not to be confused with the underlying #racism which is also present in no small measure (all religions and races confounded).
@msdropbear The more I learn from (and about) Louise Adler, the more I like her. It's a disgrace that she was forced by political lobbying into a situation where the only viable course of action left was to resign from her position of Director of Adelaide Writers’ Week — this is a huge loss to the AWW and Adelaide Festival, and more broadly, to the literary sector in Australia.
@BinChicken i first came to know of her when she was still running Melbourne University Publishing, via which i saw/heard her on various panels, interviews, articles now & then over the years. that random incidental exposure made me decide she seemed a very good peep... & then that only increased with later events.
