Dave MasonYa'll, I have news: for the first time since I was 18, I don't have to pay rent or make a mortgage payment. Yes, I paid off my mortgage.
My family and I are really happy about this.
But at the same time, I have some mixed emotions...
I've benefited from a healthy dose of privilege. Take a glance at my profile photo--it's no secret what demographic I belong to. There are a lot of folks that will never reap the benefits of being a straight, white male.
There are a lot of folks that aren't the child of college-educated parents. Or never had to worry about a roof over their head...or where their next meal would come from.
And those that are much earlier in their careers (or just getting started) are looking like they won't have the same career opportunities I did...thanks to political and technological factors.
So yeah, I paid off my mortgage. And I'm happy about it.
But I suspect a lot of others may not make it to the 'finish line' like I have. And that sucks.
It shouldn't be this way. 🙁
