Forced to use AI at work, hate it. Usage is monitored so I can't avoid it. I've set up mine to play a Sim City clone. It burns through tokens, making crap cities that quickly go bankrupt. Just been told that I'm getting a bonus for being a top user.
@fesshole I can’t like this. It still burns the planet.
@mirabilos @fesshole They don't really have a choice. It sucks but I doubt your principles around AI would involve throwing yourself to the mercy of the currently *very* shit job market.

@j0ebaldw1n @mirabilos @fesshole In my case you're wrong. I stuck to my principles: I applied at other companies, received an offer, and quit the job where everyone from top to bottom of the hierarchy (except me) was all-in on LLMs.

Many others aren't as lucky as I was. I concede that it can be very tough if you choose that path, but I vehemently disagree with the part "they don't really have a choice".

They have the choice, same as I had, and they chose to stay rather than to leave.

@davidculley @j0ebaldw1n @mirabilos @fesshole kudos to you for choosing the hard path, coherent with your values. But I wouldn't suppose that anyone is in the same position (including opportunities, skills, and risk profile).

@joe_vinegar @j0ebaldw1n @mirabilos @fesshole I was in the position to be pressured to use LLMs at work. That is the same position that anyone else finds themselves in who is pressured into using LLMs.

I then scouted opportunities that fit my skills. That can be done by literally everyone else in that position. I didn't do something extraordinary.
