whim suggested i do a presentation on archival-quality storage options for physical media within poor fujo budgets and it's intriguing but how many people would actually be interested.... that seems like most ppl would think it's a boring topic lol. also if they care then they're probably already looking at guides. or is this an xkcd feldspar moment
@angelfeast see but you bringing this up makes me realize... Hey I domt even have storage options more secure than cardboard boxes! I should go to this panel and learn how to up my game from a person before i do deep dives on guides!
@scumsuck i was giving it some more thought last night and i don't think i've really seen much aimed at individuals 🤔 at least not individuals that aren't grannies trying to save wedding dresses or stuff like that, and the stuff i have seen doesn't always have good advice (especially in the age of genai....)
@angelfeast @scumsuck itd be baller if u could share ur knowledge about preserving/archiving/protectively displaying paper works, acrylic pieces/expensive figures, and items that would be going into an itabag. i cringe when i see ppl put their expensive collections of pins and badges and charms against vinyl in their bags 😬 and im sure hardcore itabagers would love to know how not to ruin several hundo $$$ of merch
@whimwitch @angelfeast i am the cringe who is just sticking stuff in the provided itabag pocket without knowing youre supposed to put something else in there B) spread the knowledge!
@scumsuck @whimwitch if it makes you feel better, nobody is being encouraged to think of fashion accessories in the context of preservation since they were never meant for that lol. a side effect of disposable fandom culture? but that's a whole different topic...
@angelfeast @whimwitch there's also something abt knowing that it isnt meant to last? Like if I put a keychain on my backpack I know it's going to smack onto stuff, or the sticker make is on paper rather than vinyl so I know its going to melt in the rain. Still, would be interested to know about material interactions! I mostly just have stickers and buttons in my bag and haven't seen any deterioration yet

@scumsuck @angelfeast oh totally! there are some things i have where im okay with it being more temporary. i know in misc's case, they sometimes buy extras to have one for use and one for show :p. i just see a lot of itabaggers that look like they've got at least $200 worth of merch in there, and i get so worried about how some of them will feel if they leave their merch in the bag for a while (misc would have to share how long it takes for stuff to degrade based on material), and then their blmatsu treasures get stuck to the vinyl and unadhere from the acrylic :( or get super sun damaged if it's a bag they take out and about all the time for years

i don't really know how ppl treat their itabags, but i have known ppl in passing that have been very upset to find that the bag they left in the closet for like 5 years has eaten through their charms and stuff cause of the way they're packed in there and against the vinyl
