I'm old af, but the whole concept of having to "root" or "jailbreak" phones is still weird to me. You mean, as in controlling what's on MY phone that I bought and paid for with MY own money? What's next, am I going to have to learn an ancient spell to put support soles inside my own shoes? To fight a dragon to put *vegan* butter on the bread I bought, because the manufacturer think it tastes better with regular butter? Capital punishment for changing the oil in my own car?
@paranormal_distribution Yep. That whole concept of „you buy it, you own it, but you are dependent on someone else decisions“ is kinda weird when you think about it. It is not only your Smartphone, it is (almost) every „smart“ device… Your fridge with integrated camera for example. Or your vacuum robot. Or your Internet connected oven… Recently Bosch decided to disable the camera of a smart fridge. If someone decided to buy that fridge because its ability to take pictures………
@eule_007 Right on! This is exactly why I don't buy "smart"-anythings if I can avoid it. My fridge can't show me memes, and I'm okay with that.
@paranormal_distribution Hehe, I like „smart“ things, but I tend to buy smart things wich support open standards, open protocols and possibility to integration it into HomeAssistant. Reverse Engineering is the last option.
