Hmmm, is it bad for me to try and understand the summary of, let's say, Book 1 of an EPIC POEM (The Odyssey), because I don't fully know the backstory behind the Ancient Greek gods?

Or should I read the Iliad first?

Welp, I just read a summary / explanation of Yhe Odyssey (Book 1) after reading the original text and now everything makes a lot more sense.

Yeah... this is probably the way to go.

Hmmm, I suspect the reasons behind why I am unable to fully grasp the idea of the Odyssey (and presumably other Ancient Greek works) are:

  • My not-so-strong background in Ancient Greek mythology
  • My terrible ability to read T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia)'s 1930s style English
  • Weak background in Ancient Greek history; specifically the Trojan War 😅😅😅

But hey, this is my first time reading an Ancient Greek classic, I'll just have to use the summary as a helping guide 😅
