Lemmy.today is absolutely beautiful

That’s awesome. I wonder if that theme is custom or if it’s available anywhere? @[email protected]

There was an admin post by homie two days ago saying they were implementing it as the default, only a few days earlier there was a post asking for feedback about it. The feedback was positive.

Thanks mrmanager! You rock!

Yeah I got so much excellent feedback from @[email protected], and so many positive comments on it from others, so I just got the courage to put it as default on the instance. :)

But of course, lets make this theme public in a few weeks, I just need time to clean up the code so it can be improved even more by the community down the line.

@Allero - Lemmy Today

Lemmy

Its custom built to make this instance get its own style. Currently its not very maintainable code. Its overrides everywhere and its the result of a lot of testing things back and forth. Im working on cleaning it up and putting it somewhere so others can use it also.

I was thinking of making a light version but that will only happen if the code can be cleaned up first, so its easy to just change colors later.

So with a couple of more weeks, I hope to have a clean code version of it that can also be used in light mode. Then I can share it also. :)

Awesome! Maybe a merge request for @[email protected] when it’s all pretty and ready?
That would be amazing to be included there. A true honor.
Ew, don’t share it with that loser
One of the main devs of Lemmy? Seems like the only way to get it included as a default theme…
He said on Lemmy, the software that “loser” created and still maintains to this day
That’s just the default web interface with a slightly tweaked colour schema?
Yep. A quite nice one IMO. There are a couple themes preloaded in Lemmy. You can change them in your profile settings.
Its not very similar to the default theme, but yeah, it overrides the styles used by the default theme and modifies them with other colors, margins, paddings and gradients.
lemmy.today also doesn’t block any content or instances. Which is why I chose it.
it’s quite crazy the contrast between .world, .ml, and .today. I kinda like it because if the lemmyverse does grow it means I can still keep to smaller instances and not feel overwhelmed like with Reddit. The only thing I don’t enjoy is not knowing if people can see my replies or comments since there was no point in wasting my time posting if it’s blocked for some strange reason.
Well anyone else in your instance will see it regardless, anyway.
Support small instances, the admins really appreciate getting new users, and it keeps the ecosystem healthy. Also it keeps moderation in check. If some instances are being too hard, there are options for users to go to. But only if those smaller instances feel motivated to keep going. So lets support them.

Yeah I dont believe instance admins should choose those things for their users. There are options for users to block other instances themselves if they want to.

I think for giant instances, perhaps it makes sense, because moderation could become a full time job otherwise, specially if they want to have strict rules what people can say.

But yeah, im old school and I believe in letting users make that choice themselves.

But they allow safe harbor for ban evading trolls, so fuck em.

I think this depends what you mean with trolls. Some users who are called trolls by other users are not trolls in my opinion. Its just users expressing an opinion that the other user doesnt agree with.

To be a troll, you have to intentionally post things to upset others. If I post my opinion on something and you call me a troll because of it, that means im a troll? No it just means thats what you think about me. Its not a universal opinion that everyone shares.

Users who only post things that upsets others are banned also from lemmy.today. Its not designed to be a safe haven for actual trolls. But it does allow users to have unpopular opinions. The job of the moderator is to know when a user is an actual troll and when he just has a opinion that is not popular. There is a big difference.

This sounds amazing, Lemmy is extremely far left wing so any discussion right of that usually devolves into people being called nazi’s and zionists and capitalists etcetc but I can’t really join because

There’s too much left wing shit on Lemmy and the instance blocks don’t realllly work, I still get responses and see comments from instances I’ve blocked, it just blocks the communities not anything else

Yeah ok. Hopefully this can be improved in future versions of the lemmy software. I think its designed to not show those responses and comments from blocked instances. Are you sure you are looking at the Subscribed view? I dont know this, but maybe the All view will not take blocked instances into account, and the other one will? But i dont know.

nah I have full instance blocks on lemmy.ml for example and I still saw this post from the OP
Ok. It sounds like a bug to me, but not sure. Can always create an issue in the github for Lemmy and see what they respond.
By allowing users to choose their instance we are giving them that choice though. I chose piefed.social in part because I agree with the moderation policy, and I don’t want to waste my time doing it myself. I want to have reasonable admins who filter away stuff I don’t want to see before it ever gets to me. That is a choice I have as a user, just like the choice you have to do this job yourself.
100% agree with this. Its good that we have many options, its good for the ecosystem as a whole.
