Is 1995's Waterworld as bad as they said? Well no, but my word it isn't good. Find out what @lordof1 and I thought in #RibbonOfMemes https://ribbonofmemes.org.uk/archive/2026/Waterworld.html #Podcast #Film #Movies
Ribbon of Memes: Waterworld

While Waterworld isn't good by any stretch of the imagination, if you are playing a "location of the week" type game (say you were a Time Travelling Hobo type character), it's perfectly ok a background for that game, and provides plenty of material for it.

Quite a lot of not-great-but-visual films make for good "Time Travel Box Arrives and goodness the entire place is water..." adventures.

@RogerBW @lordof1

@RogerBW @Printdevil that’s actually a nice idea; in fact, the very wise @rogerbw generally recommends stealing from bad fiction rather than good.
@lordof1 @Printdevil Two reasons: (a) it's usually easier to rip out one chunk of it without leaving lots of bleeding connections, and (b) if your players recognise where you stole it from they may be too embarrassed at having also read it to mention it.

I think most bad fiction in short-doses is simply "hokey" and that suits the fun of a picaresque travelling game.

@Printdevil @RogerBW spoken like a true surgeon.
@lordof1 @Printdevil @RogerBW Touched for the very first time.

Actually "materialises, steps out and... arrrrrhhg the device suddenly sinks to the bottom of the sea"

Hilarity ensures.

Is quite an endearing pre-credits game start.

@RogerBW @lordof1

@Printdevil @RogerBW it would certainly be pretty rough on a Delorean.

"If you solve our faction based problem with the sonic death wielding half fish people we will use our dredging machines to find your Delorean and drain it out"

"What is your issue with the sonic death wielding half fish people"

"They want us to watch the War Between The Land and the Sea all the way to the end"

"I'm afraid I can't help you, I live here now"

@lordof1 @Printdevil Stainless steel, baby! (Entire electrical system shorts out) Oh, it always does that.

It was made in Belfast. It was bound to sink.
